The Year of Art

I am not some art connoisseur but I do know what I like. When I moved into my current apartment, I discovered that there were many small art galleries around me. This was a lovely surprise and meant that I could frequent these cute/eclectic places several times a week. That and following a handful of medieval art aggregator accounts and generative art makers on Twitter helped introduce me to a lot of new art this year.

I wanted to take a minute to remember it. While I did see plenty of art exhibits in person, what you see here are things I found online this year, mostly by accident. Art has this powerful ability to encompass difficult-to-encapsulate feelings on a few centimeters of paper or in a few megapixels. Edgar Degas said it more elegantly, “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” So did Edward Hopper when he remarked, “If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.”

This gallery is an amalgamation of medieval paintings and generative art; concept art/ illustrations, calligraphy and photography that looks indistinguishable from paintings. I tried my best to include attributions wherever I could. I hope you get inspired or a little bit spell-bound just like I was. And maybe they will become your favorites too.
